Chemical Composition Of Various Fish and Fish meal As Feed Ingredient For Pigs And Poultry.

  ABSTRACT:
Fishmeal, which has high level of crude protein and essential amino acids, becomes excellent animal protein source for pigs and poultry. However, the nutritive value of fishmeal used for animal feed in Vietnam varies greatly among batches. The current study aimed to determine chemical composition and amino acid concentration of various fish samples used for animal feed in the Southern regions of Vietnam. A total of 118 samples of various kinds of fishes and fishmeal were collected for chemical and amino acid analysis. Analytical method was based on the Vietnamese standard methods (TCVN) for animal feed with the reference of AOAC methods. Digestible and metabolizable energy were calculated from proximate analysis based on regression equations. The result showed that nutritive value of various fish samples varied greatly from less than 30% up to more than 65% crude protein. There was an inversely proportional relationship between crude protein and total ash content of samples. Amino acid concentration was directly proportional to crude protein content, but this relation was not consistent among samples.
